Holiday Party Benefits Woodrow Scholarship

Holiday Party Benefits Woodrow Scholarship

by Liz Mackinnon

The third annual Gustavo Ipiña Holiday party and benefit starts at 7 p.m. Dec. 1, at the Bodega Bar, located on Travis Street near Knox Street.
The community is invited to enjoy an evening of wine, hors' devours, and a silent auction to help fund the Gustavo Ipiña Memorial Scholarship program.
Dallas county prosecutor and scholarship founder Taly Haffar said the "party is a great way to kick off the holiday season" and experience the spirit of giving.
"We draw judges, attorneys, small business people from Lakewood, as well as other parts of North Dallas — also alumni from Woodrow, friends and family — it's just a great way to mix and mingle with people you might not see on a regular basis," he said.
The silent auction will feature a selection of holiday gift items, including Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars tickets, a spa package, autographed paraphernalia, and a cooking class for two.
Gustavo Ipiña was killed in a road rage incident in August 2004 — one week before his senior year at Woodrow. Mayor Tom Leppert declared Dec. 1 Gustavo Ipiña Day.
Last year, the event raised more than $11,000.
